My Living Room Tour

As it’s my most liked room on IG I thought I’d start things off with a living room tour. I’ve also included a few tips for that extra styled look, and linked all sources mentioned below. So, grab a cuppa and get ready for a good nose around. 🙂

living room footstool

I chose a neutral colour for the sofa so that it wouldn’t limit décor possibilities in the future. I love the look of sleek modern sofas, but for us comfort was priority as this is the room where we relax together, catch up on each other’s day or get lost in the latest tv series. The footstool is a DIY using an Ikea faux fur rug.

Mixing up cushions of different colours, patterns and fabrics breaks up the block of grey, but be sure to keep your choices within a limited colour palette for a cohesive look. Here I’ve stuck to black, white and a pop of blush.

The curtains are purely decorative to frame our bay window and they take your eye up, adding height to the room. I think curtains should always be floor length, it looks far more luxurious and gives the illusion of a larger window. These are actually just black out lining from Ikea, but I loved their colour and sheen so much that I used them as curtains! The aim is to one day add some French shutters to our window.

Living room candle lit shelf

Open shelving gives opportunity to add some personal styling to a space and so we added some bespoke shelves into the existing alcove. Painting them in the wall colour makes them look more built in. This was our first DIY project in our home and cleverly made by Mr F. Let me know if you’d like a tutorial?

Our marble coffee table is proof that good things come to those who wait. I searched so long to find the right size and shape and that didn’t cost the extortionate amount of its competitors. Then it arrived badly damaged which led to all kinds of complications for replacing it, but eventually it came and I have all the heart eyes for it.

Having a large centred coffee table also opened up the possibility of having statement lighting, as it doesn’t matter if it hangs low. Big lighting is an easy way to make an interior look expensive without having to spend too much. Keep an eye out for sales, thank you BHS for this beautiful chandelier at half price!

When choosing a rug, I like to have one that will sit just under the legs of each sofa which really grounds the seating area and makes it feel plush.

The large mirror above the sofa brings so much extra light to the room and I love the way it reflects the chandelier, two for the price of one!

blossom art

The space above the smaller sofa was empty for so long as I wanted something unique but didn’t have the budget for an original art piece; so I got creative. I loved the floral prints that were trending this past spring, so I photograph our cherry blossom, did a little edit on Lightroom and enlarged it using PhotoBox. It’s a nice idea if you want something more personal. Amazingly the print and frame only cost around £30.
