I love to decorate for others.
It opens the opportunity to be creative in a style that is maybe different from your own. My sister loves pastel colours and Cath Kidston prints and so when she asked me to help decorate her new home in the style of a light and airy modern cottage I was excited to get started. You may have already read my previous blog post about how I transformed the living-dining area, if not, you may want to catch up on that first – the link is here.
The kitchen in Hannah’s home was very dated, badly fitted and in desperate need of help. I’ll let the pictures do the talking, here are the before shots…
Floor to ceiling terracotta tiles, yellowy cream cupboards and exposed pipework. There was so much to do! The tiles were hacked off and the walls plastered, then a completely new kitchen was fitted. The floor tiles flow through to the hallway and changing them would cause complications so they had to stay. Although they’re not the best they are fairly neutral and so we could work with that!
As this is not Hannah’s forever home it was important to keep the cabinetry neutral. White shaker style units with chunky brushed chrome handles and a wooden worktop maintain the cottage theme. The simple white wall tiles make the room bright and we chose to inject some colour with the paint. We found the most perfect pale blue and then added lots of pretty floral prints through tea towels, accessories and crockery. This way the style can easily be altered with paint and accessories if the house is ever sold or rented out. It also fits perfectly with the rest of the house where we used lots of pinks and blues keeping it fresh and feminine!
Are you ready to see the result?…
I loved working on this project, it’s so rewarding seeing a home transformed 🙂

Just came across your blog….love what you have done to your sisters house. Is the kitchen sink and tap from Ikea? I live in Australia but came from Cardiff.☺
